MVP development of Sports Training App
MVP
PROJECT OVERVIEW

The client was a Swiss technology company that focuses on the development of their own fully-integrated wireless technology for the measurement, analysis and reporting of health data for professional sportspeople.

MY CONTRIBUTION

My role in the project was to help the company build the MVP version of the application. I was responsible for competitive analysis, recruitment and interviewing of sportspeople, preparation of UX strategy for the project and creation of both mobile and desktop app prototype versions.

THE CHALLENGE

The main goal of the app was to enable real-time data transmission during training from the chest-worn monitor to the athlete’s mobile device.

THE DISCOVERY AND THE SOLUTION

I had the opportunity to interview five athletes. As a result of these interviews I discovered which data were significant to the athlete and their coaches for each activity and which real-time data it was necessary to display during training in order to maximize the effectiveness of each training session.

Five sport applications available on the market were reviewed and a competitor analysis was prepared. The elements of each applications’ strengths, weaknesses, content and design were the basis of the report.

Competitor analysis and insights from interviews with potential users allowed me to prepare the initial prototypes of the new product and test some ideas with end users.

Mobile prototypes were tested in real conditions for sportspeople during their training. Desktop versions were adjusted to the needs of the second user type, the coach, and included other forms of data visualisation.

THE RESULT

Thanks to early testing and direct contact with end users, the understanding of athletes and their coaches’ needs was significantly enhanced. This has enabled the prioritisation of core functionalities before the development process.
